Mr. Lydgate,
·
I do believe that women can embrace knowledge and learning as well as being good wives and mothers. When I was married to Mr. Casaubon I wished to learn all of his great wisdom, much to his dismay. I merely wanted to help him write his great work and in order to do so I needed to learn all that he knew for better understanding. I did not skirt from my responsibilities as a dutiful, respectful wife. I believe that women can be the best of both worlds, Mr. Lydgate. My husband, Will Ladislaw, cherishes my great mind. He likes that I wish to think outside of the normal constraints. I do wish you and others like my dear sister, Celia, could see beyond the rules that women are supposed to follow. Even if I cannot help those less fortunate, due to my lack of knowledge, I will still assist them monetarily where I can. Maybe I can be of assistance to you, should you need any help in the future. As always I am forever grateful for your assistance when my late husband was in need.
