Mina Loy

·

What is this “Feminist Manifesto” that this fine creature Mina Loy speaks of?  Women must “realise thy selves”? Why must this be so? This Mina Loy creature is turning into a woman that will make other women ask too many questions…women are not supposed to ask so many questions…women have roles…women have rules…women are supposed to be supportive of thy husbands, they should be beautiful and…protected. What is to become of these women if they decide to go out into this world and have these so called “professional and commercial careers”?  This Loy woman then asks “Is that all you want?” What more could these women want? What are they supposed to want out of this world? Let’s say these women go out and find “careers”? How will they continue on with their duties? How will they keep their professions apart from their duties? Can they do both? What is this Lina person trying to tell women? To do more things in life? This woman then says that a man is not masculine if he has to live for social conformity, yet it is hindering the female…well, that part I can agree with. Not all men wish to be apart of this social atmosphere. There are a lot of us that wish to do the work that we love without their being any kind of distractions! Not all of us wish to have our professional lives thrive off of being apart of a social circle. However, if our female counterparts were to enjoy hosting dinner parties and such then that is fine. As long as they are kept busy, then it shouldn’t be a horrible ideal. However, if women were to have “self respect” that this Lina woman speaks of, maybe it would not be such a terrible thing? One would never know certain, my dear Rosamond has yet to set an ideal example of how a wife should possibly be. She is very much in love with having parties (ones that I can not simply afford), or maybe this entire Feminist Manifesto that Lina speaks of, is in regards to the dear Dorothea? Oh perhaps…
