Dorothea Brooke, you are a good woman for cherishing your marriage and abiding by your husband.  I find that is all we can do, for our own sake and our children’s.  How awful it would be if we were to stand against men, as this Mina Loy would ask us to.  What would our world be like?  Where would the peace be?  We should not agree with her in every area, especially not that we have accepted an area of life where we have no great impact equivocal to men.  This work that we do inside of the home is not without weight, but I do believe that your wish to make an impact further is very honorable.  We too have minds and ideas like these men we are married to, and with these minds we have the opportunity to make an impression on those around us, starting with our family.  I have a few more years on you so I know where we women work best and that is next to a powerful man as guide, but that does not mean we can go no further than the home.  Yet, we should be careful that we don’t go too far as to make an enemy of our men.
