Women doing a Man’s Job?
·
I too, think that male domination is present in The Fox. Although when first reading it, I was confused as to why the women were doing a man’s work. I’ve never seen anything like that before. I’ve actually never interacted with women before. Where I come from, male domination is everywhere. They do all of the work, but all end up dying from nature. I think the fox is a male dominant presence and has a huge influence on March. The fox actually penetrates March’s mind and controls her, almost like a puppet. But the fox has a different power over March whereas Henry’s influence is purely corrupt. He actually kills the fox in order to get March to marry him. Although there were strong themes of male domination, there was also a strong influence from Mother Nature. The Fox was a representation of mother nature and after Henry killed him, Mother Nature retaliated by killing Bandford with a tree. But I think this stems from the strong male dominant presences. I can relate to the Fox because, as a representation of nature, his death caused revenge by nature just like the all sailors dying on the ship after I was killed.
