Dr. Fielding's Course

The Waste

·

Ms. Garth,
I couldn’t help but notice that some of our thoughts were the same upon reading Eliot’s The Waste Land. Such a fragmented tale, pieces here and pieces there… And what does it all mean? I agree the nature imagery was quite vivid- I recalled details of my voyage as a lad and could almost feel the sensations come back to me. Women such as yourself while reading this have to, of course, resort to the imagination for such observations as they have no real experience on these things, you know.
Let me let you in on something Mary, while even having seen such these, one still may remain confused on Eliot’s point. I too cannot begin to comprehend it’s foreboding underlinings and I’m not sure I particularly want to.
Oh how I long for a happier, simpler tone to ease my mind.
