The Fox
·
What a sly fox that Henry fellow is. I find similarities amongst myself with Nellie March and am a bit taken aback by the fellow chasing after her. She is a strong woman who does not mind doing the hard work around the homestead. She seems to be very independent and head strong in some aspects. I was a bothered by this young man’s manipulation of her. She clearly is telling him no in his marriage proposal, but her timidness allows him to bully her into what he wants her to say. His motives are clearly malevolent and he picks the woman that he feels he can pull a fast one on. I do see how she sees the young man as a fox. He is sly and cunning and relentless in his pursuit to get what he wants. His killing the fox seems like a revenge act for the girls whispering ill things about him. I can’t wait to read what part two has in store. The fox’s pursuit reminds me of Sir James Chettam’s earlier mistaken infatuation with myself. I am so glad he saw that it was Celia who he really loved. I do adore them together and their lovely son, Arthur.
