Mrs. Dalloway part 2

·

Well, I must say that this Virgina Woolf lady is very different. This Mrs. Dalloway story is…well, I’m not quite sure what to make of it. I feel as though, Mrs. Dalloway is this woman that continues to let life…lead the way for her so-to-speak. In this second part, I must admit, I had to read it a few times. Mrs. Dalloway is a rather…well, to be honest, I find her both annoying as well as intriguing.  As we read onto the second part, I was hoping we wouldn’t still act as though we were…what is the term….”a fly on the wall” kind of audience member. Straight away, we are seeing Clarissa rub her eye, we can hear what is going on within the kitchen and so forth. Then there is a line that made me wonder…”she bowed beneath the influence”…then it goes on to say how she felt “blessed and purified”, yet she said it to herself. Is she trying to convince herself that her life is so fine? It certainly seems as though she is! It is almost as if she is…oh what was the term…ah, yes, “peer-pressure” herself into this rather “perfect life”.  If it is so perfect for her, then why must she repeatedly tell herself that her life is the best? This husband of hers must be rather busy! At least she is keeping herself busy I suppose. I will state that Mrs. Dalloway is rather dramatic! Look at how this Woolf author described how Clarissa walked up the staircase! It was as if I were looking at a moving picture, yet, that moving picture also showed us that she could very well be slowly but surely dying of either boredom or not really knowing what she wants anymore? The lines “suddenly she felt shriveled, aged, breastless” it is as if she is having a panic attack of some sort.
