Dr. Fielding's Course

Mrs. Dalloway

·

I will say this has been a rather intriguing read.  It was a great departure from the death and horrors of novels past.  I was pleased that the majority of the novel was more lighthearted until I happened upon the tragic death of dear Septimus.  I found, in my readings, some common personalities that reminded me of a few fellow Middlemarchers.  This made the reading more enjoyable because I could just imagine them in these situations.

I do say I was rather intrigued with Peter.  Although she was married to Richard, I must say I was almost rooting for Peter to woo her away.  I guess this speaks volumes about my personal life!  I did love Mr. Casaubon, but my marriage to Mr. Ladislaw is so much more.  I almost place myself in Mrs. Dalloway’s footsteps at time.

Alas, poor Septimus!  I felt terrible for his young wife.  What she must be going through!  I cannot imagine such great pains as those that Septimus experienced.  I only wish he could have had a doctor to really listen to him and diagnosis his illness instead of just prescribing bedrest.  It was with a weary heart that I was able to get through that chapter of the story.  Ms. Woolf does write great novels!  I had never had the pleasure of reading one of her books before this, but rest assured that it will not be my last!
