Dr. Fielding's Course

Mrs. Dalloway

·

Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway appeals to me more than any of the recent works I’ve came across in recent weeks. Though the story does happen to be quite shifty this was a quality that which I certainly enjoyed. However, I really could not comprehend why this Septimus man was incorporated into the work until I reread the moment that he was first introduced to readers. This war struck man represent the many many other men and the world in general who were affected by the first major modern war of their time.

I came to notice this role the young man plays in the story through one simple sentence in the text. The flag, the symbol of thr British nation was described just prior and it was explained to resonate thoughts of these past traumas of the country. Septimus gives readers a literal example of the repercussions soldiers themselves faced after war.

Quite an interesting start to a book, yet every occurrence thus far has been quite natural. Why Woolf has choose to keep things so plain ordinary I have yet to conclude. However, this aspect does I´ll say should appeal to a wider rather than a more select group of readers.

It is hard for me to remark on the characters of the book just yet as I only can make a first impression on them thus far. Mrs. Dalloway herself for example, she is quite a quaint women really. She thinks a lot of present occurrences if you ask me. It is as if when she comes across a memory in her mind she transcend both times and places. Looking at her further I will note that she appears to be a somewhat reformed woman. Somewhat to say the least.

This is an interesting read thus far with no doubt. I will be amused to continue reading further and learn what becomes of this day and Mrs. Dalloway´s party along with her friends and Septimus.
