I delight in your opinions, Mrs. Cadwallader!

Mrs. Cadwallader, I am delighted to know that you agree with me on these issues of women and marriage. Not only am I happy to know that another shares in my opinion, but your agreement gives me some relief. After I had so blatantly expressed my rightful opinion on the marriage conditions between Mr. Eliot and his wife, my husband began to communicate to me that he believed I was being too harsh on the woman. Well, of course my dear husband would think this – he always searches to find the good in a person, even if that means he would be searching for years! He said to me that I did not know the woman, and that I should give her the benefit of the doubt. Well, surely I do not know this woman, but I do know what a woman’s role is in her marriage, and I can certainly tell when that role is being neglected! My dear husband is fortunate he will never experience a marriage like the Eliot’s because he has me as his wife. I can certainly say the same about your husband, Mrs. Cadwallader. Our husbands are lucky men to have such women as wives!
