Dr. Fielding's Course

How foul, Ulysses!

·

Mr. Leopold Bloom is one disturbing, pensive man. The beginning paragraph of this excerpt really gave me the goose bumps! How, vulgar and cannibalistic his nature seems to be, though I knew he was just talking about fowls and beasts, but I couldn’t help but feel a chill go through me with this introduction. After these disturbing sentences, we get more pensive in this reading. It is interesting and a wonder to see how many internal thoughts one has throughout just a single morning. I rather found myself trying to reflect my own thoughts and how scattered they really are. And my oh my!, how scattered they were! I found my self able to relate to Mr. Bloom on this one and only association with each other. However, his wife, psh! How lazy of her to sit in bed and get catered to all morning! She should have duties and responsibilities as the wife of a household should! Even if her child is grown and out on her own, does she not have daily chores to attend to?! It must be nice to have a life like hers! Though, I don’t imagine I can sit still for very long, I am such a busy body! And then! Oh dear, that horrific insight into his morning bowels! I mean my goodness, do you not think to leave out daily digestive behaviors? We all know what comes in and out of us my dear Bloom! I felt quite sick after reading this part, and felt this very repugnant and a sudden stink lingering in my mind. I do feel like I need a breath of fresh air now, please excuse me while I go for a much needed afternoon stroll!
