Dr. Fielding's Course

Heart of Darkness ending…

·

Well, Marlow is one fine fellow. It was very smart of him to stay focused on getting the boat fixed and staying with your plan. It is important to reach your goals with little to no distractions. Well, it can be said that he was in fact distracted by all of those noodles around him, but to each is own I suppose. Marlow seems to have this kind of…weird behavior within himself…one would think that he is…oh what is that word…ah, yes, he seems to be rather sympathetic? Almost confused even. Especially with theses so called “savages” and travelers he has with him…hmm…it is rather strange to see. If I were to say that Marlow had any distractions from his voyage, it would actually be because of his constant thoughts of this Kurtz character.  He was young Marlow, trying to complete his voyage, having fixed his ship and he is left once more wandering about this Kurtz fellow. I guess one could call that friendship? It is nice to see that Marlow eventually came back to his senses and realized that he need not worry about anything else other than himself. That is what is most important after all. Kurtz fiancee, Intended, let us be honest here, she is not that important. My dear fellow Marlow seems to understand that she is not of importance. Women are a distraction. You should only set plans to marry once you are accomplished…which I would presume is what Kurtz wanted to do…he was a fairly accomplished man, so I suppose it was time for to marry. I would hope that he had waited a couple of years prior to proposing to this woman. It seems as though she was a fine woman…however, she was rather…troublesome. Must she ask so many questions? Why was it so important for her to wonder if Kurtz last words were about her? I do not blame Marlow for not telling her the actual truth. Women do not need to know every detail. It is rather selfish of them.
