Sir Doyle,
What a delight it was to see a fellow man to be as puzzled as I am upon reading this! A reasonable reaction, I’d say. With that of your experience of the Great War, I can see how one would certainly read such an underlining. Common to see how the horrors and death of such battles tie in, but a connection no doubt, Sir.
The poem itself did seem too much for me as well. I find comfort in hearing that you’ve read it as I have. That is because you and I are men, you know, and of almost the same age. One who understands as I do.
