A Little Much for Me

·

The message Miss Loy conveys in Feminist Manifesto is far too dramatic and aggressive for me to even consider as a proper argument or statement. I believe I understand where she is coming from, as far as where the “place” of women has been, traditionally, since the dawn of society; I have always thought it silly that a man should necessarily be the one who has a career that supports himself and his entire family and that a woman should necessarily stay home and care for the family and home, for example. I think that men and women should be on more equal footing, as they say. However, Miss Loy has gone too far here. Firstly, one must always be willing to compromise, otherwise progress is almost certainly going to be out of one’s reach. Miss Loy does not seem to understand this. Secondly, it does no good to intentionally make enemies out of those who, at least for the time being, have the power to bring about the change one so desperately wants. Even if it makes one want to disgorge, one must find a way to work with those in power to set in motion the changes one wants to see. Lastly, this “surgical destruction of virginity” seems to be nothing more than the idea of one who is mad. Not even Mr. Lydgate could accomplish such a feat, nor should he ever attempt it. What do you think, Mary? I always value your opinions.
